System Overview
The Lunar Battery (LE-ESS-20KWH) is an integrated energy storage system comprised of a DC-coupled PV and battery hybrid inverter and (4) Lunar Battery Blocks, field assembled into a Multi-Part ESS unit as defined in UL9540 (Section 6.28, Rev June 2023).

ESS Installation Location Requirements
The Lunar Battery can only be installed in one of the following areas:
Attached garages
Detached garages
Outdoors or on exterior walls at least 3 ft away from doors or windows
Enclosed utility closets, basements, storage or utility spaces within dwelling units with finished or noncombustible walls and ceilings
The ESS shall NOT be installed in sleeping rooms, closets or spaces opening directly into sleeping rooms, or in habitable spaces of dwelling units.
Outdoor Clearance Requirements
Minimum 3' from any habitable windows or doors
Minimum 3' from property line
Minimum 3' horizontal clearance from closest edge of electrical equipment to the gas meter
Lunar Battery may project horizontally not more than 2' into any setback area
Batteries shall not be less than 3' away from the property line
Garage Installation
When installed on an end wall in front of minimum drive aisle, Lunar Battery must be installed a minimum 30" above finished grade, or provided with an approved barrier subject to AHJ review.
Minimum garage width: Compact = 8' drive aisle + 3' working clearance + 1.5' for Lunar ESS | Standard = 9' drive aisle + 3' working clearance + 1.5' for Lunar ESS | 2-car = 18' drive aisle + 3' working clearance + 1.5' for Lunar ESS
Indoor Installation (per UL 9540A)
Smallest room volume specified by manufacturer = 28.3168 m³ = 988 ft³
Additional requirements: Show interconnected smoke alarm in the space/room where ESS is installed. If the space/room is unfinished, walls and ceiling shall be protected by 5/8" Type X gypsum board. State the kW of battery system as proposed in T24 energy report on Electrical Plan.
Mounting & Fasteners
Use hot-dipped galvanized fasteners for mounting outdoors. Floor mounting of the Lunar ESS shall follow the same installation steps as the Wall Mounting details. Manufacturer required clearances apply as specified in the product documentation.
