6.2 Ground Fault

Symptoms:

TRM reports any of the following faults: GROUND_STEP_FAULT, GROUND_ABSOLUTE_FAULT, GIRM_SELF_TEST_FAULT, GIRM_FET_FAULT, GIRM_DC_PLUS_TEST_FAULT, GIRM_DC_MINUS_TEST_FAULT.

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Turn rotary switch OFF.

  2. Disconnect PV circuit from inverter.

  3. Turn rotary switch ON.

    • If ground fault triggered: There is a ground fault within the ESS. Contact Lunar.

    • If ESS goes active on-grid: Proceed to next step.

  4. Turn rotary switch OFF.

  5. Reconnect PV circuit at the inverter.

  6. Disconnect home runs on the PV side of the Hub.

  7. Turn rotary switch ON.

    • If ground fault triggered: There is a ground fault between the Inverter and the Hub.

    • If ESS goes active on-grid: Proceed to next step.

  8. Turn rotary switch OFF.

  9. Reconnect string 1 PV to the Hub. Keep string 2 PV disconnected from Hub.

  10. Turn rotary switch ON.

    • If ground fault triggered: There is a ground fault in string 1.

    • If ESS goes active on-grid: Repeat test for string 2 isolated.

  11. For the string identified with a ground fault, disconnect the outputs on the Maximizer at each end of the string.

  12. Turn rotary switch ON. If fault triggered: ground fault is between the Hub and the end of the PV string. If ESS goes active on-grid: the ground fault is within the PV array.
