Lunar Installer App — System Commissioning Guide (v2.1)
Overview
The Lunar Installer App is a guided, simple, stepwise tool used for commissioning and servicing the Lunar System. It connects the system together, configures devices and settings, automatically tests the system, and guides through troubleshooting. No cellular connection is required.
Before You Commission
Ready the System: Wiring should be complete. Connect antennas to the Inverter, and turn the ESS main breaker ON.
Collect QR Stickers: Peel QR stickers from each Maximizer and have them ready to scan.
Collect Wi-Fi details: Lunar strongly encourages connecting the system to Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Collect any details in advance.
Key Commissioning Concepts
Jobs: Jobs represent sessions of work on a system. Create a new job to connect to a system. Progress is saved to the job as you go. Once the system is commissioned, submit the finished job to Lunar to receive a shareable Job Report PDF.
The System Screen: This is your "todo list" when connected to a system. Work down the screen, resolving each item until all items are green.
Firmware Updates: The Installer App always carries the latest firmware package, which it transfers to the system when it first connects.
Commissioning Steps
1. Starting Commissioning: Create a new job with site reference, address, and utility. Scan the QR code inside the Inverter side door to connect. Set up internet connections via Wi-Fi, Ethernet, or cellular.
2. Site Lookups (Incentive Programs/TPOs): When commissioning for an Incentive Program or Third Party Owner, look up prepopulated site details in the Site Search screen to ensure system eligibility.
3. Connecting to Maximizers: Scan Maximizer QR codes into the app to establish wireless connection. Wait for the system to connect to all scanned Maximizers.
4. Smart Breakers: Commission Eaton AbleEdge Smart Breakers for Load Control and AC PV functions via the Smart Breakers section.
5. Firmware Updates: Tap "Update devices" to install firmware on all devices. Updates may take up to 25 minutes.
6. Metering Configuration: Verify Rogowski Coil CTs are installed on correct phases and oriented correctly.
7. Backup and Maximizer Tests: Run the backup test (takes home off-grid) and Maximizer verification test.
8. Finish Job: Once all items are resolved, tap "Finish Job" and submit the report.

Performing RMAs: Navigate to the Support tab and tap "Perform RMA." Enter the RMA code to retrieve details, scan replacement devices, and submit.
Roof Doctor: An optional commissioning tool enabling phone-to-Maximizer communications early on install day, before the ESS is operational. Can update Maximizer firmware, verify comms and status, and enable 1V output for multimeter verification.
